Fayette County has all the essential amenities needed to ensure profitable business operations and an enviable quality of life. Fayette is located in Northwest Alabama at the foot of the Appalachian mountain range, one hour’s drive from Tuscaloosa and less than two hours from Birmingham, Alabama. It enjoys a temperate but seasonal climate, plenty of fresh air and clean water, and friendly citizens with a strong work ethic. The City of Fayette, the county seat, is a growing, progressive community that offers many services and benefits generally only found in much larger communities. Through careful planning, community involvement, and prudent financial management, Fayette has established itself as a model municipality in the state of Alabama. A tradition of productive diversity in manufacturing and service industries provides a strong economic base. The educational, cultural and health care facilities are unsurpassed for a community of its size. Fayette offers a wide variety of physical, recreational, and cultural activities for personal growth and enjoyment. Neighborhoods with older homes nestled under canopies of huge trees as well as several new residential areas offer a variety of housing choices. Visitors may wish to experience one of the Victorian Bed and Breakfast inns decorated with period antiques. The Fayette Arts Council sponsors performances throughout the year at the Civic Center, a renovated 1930 school building now privately endowed by local benefactors. In addition to the 350-seat auditorium, a dining room and conference facilities, the Civic Center is also the home of the Fayette Art Museum. Fayette is one of the few towns of its size that boasts an art museum with over 3500 pieces of art, including an extensive collection of folk artists Jimmie Lee Sudduth, Reverend Benjamin Perkins, and Sybil Gibson. The 100-acre Smith Park is a public facility offering shaded picnic areas, a nine-acre fishing lake, tennis courts, softball, baseball and soccer fields, and a children’s playground. Lighted walking and jogging trails wind lazily through the landscaped woodlands. Each year the park plays hosts to the annual arts festival and balloon blast. For the avid outdoor recreationists, opportunities abound. Golf enthusiasts can be challenged at the Fayette County Club or at nearby North River Yacht and Golf Club, one of the South’s premier courses. Some of the nation’s best sports fishing, camping and boating are closely available at Smith Lake, Lake Tuscaloosa, and the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Hunting enthusiasts will find this woodland area a paradise for hunting deer and turkey. Fayette is the home of Bevill State Community College, an outstanding two-year institution that offers associate degrees in 37 fields of study. Extensive vocational education and technical training are available at the three Bevill campuses within the area. The community college also offers special incentives for senior citizens and children. A weight room, indoor pool and wellness education are available for individual community members as well as business and industry groups. The Fayette Medical Center is one of the most advanced rural hospitals in the southeast. The complex contains a 183-bed hospital and long term care facility, home health and hospice services.
