State of Alabama Office of the Governor Dear Friends: Welcome! The Alabama Advantage retiree attraction program was designed to provide you with information about participating communities, with local community links for additional information. The "Alabama Advantage" section of this site will provide you with information about our state’s numerous amenities and advantages, and I am confident that Alabama Advantage will be the starting point in your venture of discovery. The numerous participants and developers of this Web site represent the hospitality and community spirit of Alabama, and its interest in inviting you to visit, relocate, and become a part of our state. We hope you will find the Alabama Advantage Web site easy to use and that you will take advantage of the many opportunities Alabama has to offer. Sincerely, Bob Riley About this website: This site is a collaborative effort on behalf of the State of Alabama, Alabama Advantage program, the Alabama Association of Regional Councils, and communities in Alabama with an expressed interest in attracting retirees to their particular community. As a collaborative effort, we have relied heavily on information from the communities and other general sources of information. In doing so, we cannot guarantee complete accuracy, so we'd encourage you to verify any data that is of particular importance to you. The site was developed as a one-stop informational source for persons looking for a new location to retire. We expect to add more communities in the future and will constantly be looking for ways to improve the site, so your comments and suggestions are welcome. While many participated in this effort, we especially want to thank Sarah Hesters, Web Master for the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission, for maintaining the site, Troy Shope, for site development and Rusty Ham formerly of the South Central Alabama Development Commission for regional maps. We also want to thank the University of Alabama, Cartographic Research Laboratory for the use of their maps, the American Chambers of Commerce Researchers Association (ACCRA) for cost of living figures used on community data sheets, Bill Meadows of Alabama Advantage, Dan Brothers formerly of the Alabama Bureau of Tourism & Travel, and the Alabama Super Computer Authority for their assistance.
