Dothan
 Dothan, the largest metropolitan area
for over 75 miles, is located in the heart of a tri-state region called
"Wiregrass" in southeast Alabama. The region's name comes from the native,
wiry-stem grass first found growing profusely in the area by early settlers.
Dothan, a bustling community of 56,000 people,
has drawn national attention for its desirability as a place to raise a family
or retire. For the past three years, Money magazine has rated Dothan the most
livable city in Alabama, and "Money's" 1996 ranking puts Dothan in the 39th spot
among the 300 best places to live in the United States. The City offers a
progressive spirit, an easygoing lifestyle, and a cost of living 10 percent
below the national average. Dothan boasts a
school system that ranks among the top five in Alabama, in addition to a
four-year university and two-year community college. Many cultural and
entertainment activities are available, including an art museum, a ballet
company, symphonic concerts, community theater, the state's agricultural museum
(Landmark Park), and a 36-hole golf course on Alabama's famous Robert Trent
Jones Golf Trail. In addition, 20 parks sponsor recreational and athletic
programs for all ages. The Gulf of Mexico, with its deep-sea fishing
opportunities and the beautiful Gulf Coast beaches, is just 80 miles to the
south. Dothan's slogan is "Dothan, Alabama…A
Place in the Heart". Sounds like a place with which it would be easy to fall in
love!
